“New Horizon for Business Partnership through Korea-US FTA”

KOTRA today announced that Won Sok Yun, Director General & Chief Trade Commissioner of KOTRA Los Angeles, will lead a press conference on Wednesday, Jan. 11, at 4:30pm PT to provide information regarding the new business partnerships to come in the Consumer Electronics Industry.

The press conference, to be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) at the 2012 International CES in the South Hall Connector Room S228, will discuss the recently ratified US-KOREA Free Trade Agreement, announce the leading innovative products and technology from Korea, and recognize the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing between the Consumers Electronics Association (CEA)® and Korea Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA).

The MOU will provide a framework to promote two-way trade and investment promotion activities through KOTRA & CEA. The agreement will allow both parties to promote each other’s industry trade events to expand business opportunities. The Korea-US FTA brings the opportunity to build a strong partnership with Korean IT/CE companies with a balance of quality and advanced technology products.

In addition to creating 70,000 additional jobs, the U.S. annual GDP is expected to increase by $10-12 Billion while U.S. Exports by $11 Billion.

Andrew Lee advises international business enterprises in corporate and financial transactions, mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, international and cross-border transactions, products liability, real estate, tax and other general business matters. He has extensive experience representing corporations, limited liability companies, partnerships and joint ventures of major Korean multinational companies in various commercial transactions. Client industries include steel, automobile, medical devices, Internet, banking and real estate.

Mr. Lee represented a major Korean steel company in an international consortium to build and operate a USD 400 million steel facility in Venezuela. He has handled numerous acquisitions and dispositions involving millions of dollars of foreign subsidiary corporations or operating units on behalf of major Korean business groups.

Mr. Lee also has substantial experience advising in-house corporate counsel and/or executives as outside corporate counsel, including serving as national or regional counsel for large corporations. In his role as outside corporate counsel, Mr. Lee advises clients on internal company issues, such as labor and employment matters and disputes, creating and enforcing corporate policies and procedures, and advising and counseling the Board of Directors and management on general matters. Mr. Lee also has broad extensive experience managing large litigation cases including products liability cases for foreign and domestic manufacturers and distributors.

Having passed the CPA exam and worked at a Big 5 accounting firm, Mr. Lee’s technical financial background and diverse cultural awareness enable him to successfully represent large Korean companies in their international business dealings.

He is admitted to practice in California and the United States Tax Court.

Simon Hong

Simon Hong specializes in representing domestic and foreign financial institutions in all facets of commercial and real estate lending, workouts, secured lender remedies, receiverships, collection litigation and post-judgment enforcements. He has extensive experience handling complex judicial and non-judicial foreclosures of real, personal and mixed collateral; financing, packaging, selling and purchasing commercial loan portfolios; and coordinating all types of litigation involving enforcement and collection of export bills of exchange. He has successfully obtained judgments in hundreds of millions of dollars in favor of Korean banks and insurance corporations. He has also represented a major Korean bank in connection with securities fraud and RICO litigation in federal courts in Boston and New York.

Mr. Hong’s practice also includes bank formation, financial institution regulation and examination, as well as mergers and acquisitions of banks.

Mr. Hong serves as outside general counsel for the US subsidiaries of several Korean banks and conglomerates, and represents a Korean semi-government agency in the export credit and bond insurance business.

He frequently speaks at seminars and workshops sponsored by Korean banks in California and Korea on various topics including US banking law, real estate secured lending transactions, loan documentation strategies and cost-effective collection of judgments.

Ms. Kim’s accomplishments are not limited to law practice and business, she was appointed to the Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and confirmed by Los Angeles City Council on September 9, 2005. Ms. Kim resigned from the Board of Harbor Commissioners on June 30, 2011.

Ms. Kim and her fellow Los Angeles Harbor Commissioners partnered with the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners and took unprecedented action by approving the landmark San Pedro Bay Ports Clean Air Action Plan in November 2006. The Clean Air Action Plan provides a comprehensive strategy for reducing air emissions from port operations by nearly 50 percent over a period of five years. Their efforts yielded the first joint meeting of the leaders of the two ports since the 1920s and the first‐ever public meeting of the two Boards on November 20, 2006, the day the Plan was approved. During her six‐year tenure as a Port of Los Angeles Commissioner, she served many prestigious committees including Intermodal Terminal Facility Committee, Electrification of the Port Committee, Business Development & Leasing Committee, and International Trade Committee. In the later years of her public life, Ms. Kim served a prestigious 15‐member advisory board, The California Climate Change Adaptation Advisory Panel, appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2009. The panel completed its tasks by completing State’s policy guidelines which was published in January 2011.
